Google Maps

When the Map opens go to the Search box just to the right of the Google name. Type in the street address, city, state or just the zip code you are looking for. It is not necessary to capitalize or to put in commas. For example type in 77700 country club rancho mirage. Now click on the search box or hit your return button. Your map is now visible. Close the large white address box by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the box. Now go to the upper right corner of the window and click on satellite. If you want to use the address box to get directions you will have to use Firefox; Safari won't work!

The nearest Apple Store is in Rancho Cucamonga, at Victoria Gardens, off the I-15:   http://www.apple.com/retail/victoriagardens.  There are many of us who have gone there and used their Genius Bar and we can heartily recommend them. They are often busy, so making an appointment with the Genius Bar before going is a good idea.

Test Your Speed and Compare it to Road Runner
Road Runner has announced that their download speeds have increased to 5 Mbps (up from 3 Mbps). Upload speeds remain at 384 Kbps. This makes Road Runner triple the speed of DSL's standard package and more than 100 times faster than dial-up, according to Road Runner. Here are three sites that you can use to test the speed at which your computer transfers data. They are easy to use and are listed in my order of preference.
  1. DSL/Broadband Reports: http://www.dslreports.com/stest
  2. CNET Bandwidth: http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html
  3. Bandwidth Place: http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

PhotoLeap. This is fairly new - released Feb. 2005. You've taken a zillion digital images and want to share them with others. But your e-mail program limits the size of attachments. Uploading images to photo-sharing sites can be a pain. PhotoLeap lets you quickly send and receive hundreds of digital photos in one message, without the constraints of regular e-mail. A basic version is free. Before going to the PhotoLeap web site check out this article in PC Magazine for a complete easy to understand review.
